Goals

Join us for a 45-minute workshop that features a communication program designed to support Noyce interns in a summer internship program. It can be a challenge to support STEM interns in reflecting on their roles as educators during their summer internships. In this workshop, attendees will learn about online applications that helped us promote intern reflection, and interventions to increase intern participation in online and onsite experiences.

Evidence

Our response to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic led us to examine how we were supporting our interns’ reflection about the impact they were having as educators in their placements. New tools such as MS Teams and Flipgrid were adopted to strengthen the off-site component of our summer internship experience. We provided more opportunities for peer interaction among the interns and supported community interaction among stakeholders. The MS Teams site allowed program personnel and interns to access readings and communicate asynchronously.

Proposal

Join us for a 45-minute workshop that features a communication program designed to support Noyce interns in a summer internship program. It can be a challenge to support STEM interns in reflecting on their roles as educators during their summer internships. In this workshop, attendees will learn about online applications that helped us promote intern reflection, and interventions to increase intern participation in online and onsite experiences. In 2020, the Noyce summer internship program was updated in consideration of Covid 19 conditions. Each week interns used Flipgrid, a video-based reflection tool, platform to share their reflections on experiences at their internship site and responses to assigned readings. This online site facilitated intern cohort interaction as well as communication with Noyce investigators. This approach could be used by others who support Noyce Internship programs.
