Abstract

This poster will highlight the teacher journeys of two NOYCE scholars as they explore their leadership potential in Texas. It is also about the transition from teacher of students to leader in the larger community as STEM educators and learners.
Tim’s goal is to inspire and empower teachers to harness the power of the students’ intuitive curiosity about the natural world. He recently designed and carried out a day-long teacher workshop that centered on informal science activities. Erica has begun an exploration into the world of education policy. Working in a Title I district, she recognized several issues in Texas education policy and the negative impact it has on underrepresented populations. She looks for pathways for teachers to advocate for policy change and equity in public education. The poster will share results and implications from Tim and Erica’s work.
