Abstract

This poster focuses on the Research and Teaching Integration (RTI) course implemented by the Noyce program in Spring 2022 at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). The RTI course helps increase research and communication skills for future STEM educators and researchers who were undergraduate biology and math majors. The poster outlines important key points from the course and summarizes the associated activities. In general, the activities introduced future STEM educators and researchers with different levels of communication, interdisciplinary research, and project-based learning (PBL). Each of the activities incorporated different methods for teaching and in this posted I present structured reflections on how these methods for teaching in the RTI course prepared me to be a STEM teacher. Regarding the outcomes of this course, I was able to achieve many diverse strategies, communication skills, and work in team building, which were all were positive outcomes that I got from the course. Finally, I would feel this would be an excellent course to be offered each semester, so it may help the future generation of educators.
