Overview of the TAMIU Noyce Scholarship Program: Preparing Highly Qualified Math

Abstract

Preparation of future teachers for high school mathematics education is essentially at the core of most public universities’ missions, providing a vital task in pursuit of academic instruction’s goals for an educated and engaged general public at large. The Noyce Scholarship Program at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), Laredo, Texas strives to continuously improve the development of potential teachers who will prepare future generations in their communities for success in college and careers in mathematics.
This poster will highlight multifaceted program features that is being implemented at TAMIU for the teachers who are not only prepared but also capable of taking care of overwhelming task for the future of mathematics and mathematics education in general. Noyce scholars will discuss teaching strategies learned in classes taken in the College of Education, the extent of mentoring provided by the program and application to field based experiences to achieve these tasks paramount to the aforementioned mission.
