Abstract
Development of identity within the STEM field has been seen to play a positive role in the persistence and enjoyment of students within science classroom/opportunities although limited research speaks towards the “how” in developing STEM identity. Through a variety of in-class actions and collection of data at metropolitan public high school, the way in which students develop this identity was explored. Results of this research led to insight into the importance of community, everyday connections to content, and recognition in STEM identity development.
