Abstract
The pre-service teachers’ journey into the classroom is critical to both their success in teaching and in the learning experiences of their students. The ENABLE STEM project partners with a science museum, the Center for Science and Industry (COSI), to provide informal education to our ENABLE STEM fellows. Throughout the one-year program, the fellows engage with COSI by volunteering during the summer to present science and math discovery carts and demonstrations to visitors of all ages. They also collaborate with the museum in designing new science or math discovery carts. This initial teaching and learning process is unique in that it provides a holistic approach in our teacher preparation program. As a continuum from last year, our cohort II fellows and the COSI team added two new science discovery carts, and modified a cart previously presented by our cohort I fellows during the 2017 summer.
