The use of evidence-based grading shifts the purpose of math courses from being the learning mathematics concepts, to the development of enduring and transferable life skills through the learning of mathematics. Through this shift, course instruction and assessment become more balanced, embracing the inclusion of all 8 mathematical practices. From a student perspective, students become responsible for providing evidence of their learning which requires regular self-reflection and collaboration which result in the development of student agency and efficacy.
