Abstract

This poster shares the experiences of two of the 26 Master Teaching Fellows (MTFs) selected to be a part of a 5-year mathematics professional development project aimed at developing Elementary Mathematics Specialists (EMSs). The MTFs have completed two university endorsement programs, including K-5 Mathematics and Teacher Support & Coaching, and are participating in Professional Learning Communities and individual mentoring. They are serving as teachers of mathematics and informal teacher leaders in elementary schools with student populations largely marginalized and underserved in mathematics education. They will share a broad view of the program and how they have been impacted, such as shifts in their mathematics instruction, ways they are serving as teacher leaders, and pursuit of higher education through an Ed.S. and Ph.D. This project is concluding its 3-year mark this summer, with the MTFs impacting students through ambitious and equitable mathematics teaching as well as influencing their communities, teacher candidates, novice teachers, fellow teachers, and caregivers and families.
