Abstract
In this project-based learning segment, Math 6, Math 8, Algebra 1, & Financial Algebra classes explored the question: What type of restaurant would you like to see in your community? Students had voice and choice in creatively imagining their own restaurant: deciding on a name, menu items, budget, media advertisement, and location in the community. Then, students learned and applied key mathematical knowledge to explore how profitable their restaurant would be in the real-world. This included ratios (Math 6), systems of linear equations (Math 8, Algebra 1), and stock trends (Financial Algebra). Finally, students pitched their restaurant plans to their peers and explained mathematically why they believed their restaurant would be profitable.
