Noyce Scholar

Name of Noyce institution:
University of Arizona

Current academic or teaching status:
Undergraduate Senior

School and school district:
Fickett Middle School, Tucson Unified School District

Background:

I’m a senior in Mathematics Education at the University of Arizona. I love to travel, play golf, and keep busy!

Why do you want to teach:

In high school, I had some of the best teachers and a few I thought had room for improvement. I tutored my peers and really enjoyed helping others grasp a new concept. To me, the two best feelings in the world are having the “Aha” moment yourself and giving it to someone.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

This came while working with a student who is learning English as a second language. She has shown marvelous growth. She works with a peer throughout the class to get more help. When I work with her one-on-one, she picks up concepts very quickly and is learning a lot more English while doing so. It has been a great thing to see!

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program has been a great support and reliever of stress for me. Without the help of this program, I would have and still be stressed about the financial responsibilities of attending college.
