N/A

Background:

Born and raised in Pembroke Massachusetts, I am currently a senior at Stonehill College. I am pursuing my bachelor’s degree in mathematics, with a minor in secondary education. In addition to my passion for mathematics, I also have a passion for soccer (I am a captain of the Women’s Varsity Soccer team at Stonehill) as well as for community service (having participated in multiple service trips since the age of 15 to Kentucky, West Virginia, the Dominican Republic, and Peru). I have two very supportive parents and a brother, who recently finished up his duties with the United States Marine Corps.

Why do you want to teach:

To me, teaching is about making an impact on your students’ futures and guiding them to reaching their full potential. I believe I have the ability to make that impact on someone and sincerely enjoy doing so. On top of that, mathematics is a subject I am passionate about. Being able to educate students in a subject I love and having that lasting impact on them is something that I would thoroughly enjoy.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

During a day of my pre-practicum observation hours, I spent the entire class (Algebra II) period helping one student with a problem set. She was struggling with the concepts and was about to give up. I kept working with her and explained everything in a new way; she finally came to understand it. It was amazing to see her face light up when everything made sense to her, and it gave me a great sense of satisfaction. Moments like this make me excited to be able to teach for a profession.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce Program is an incredible opportunity and a great program to be a part of. It serves as a tool for educating me further on how to be an effective math teacher, as well as providing opportunities to communicate with those who are taking the same career path as I. I am thankful to be a part of such a wonderful organization.
