Background:

I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville. I teach 9th grade Physical Science, 10th grade Biology, and 11-12th grade Physics at West Fork High School (WFHS). I have an amazing husband who works as a science teacher with me at WFHS; we love to support our community…Go Tigers!

Why do you want to teach:

I have a strong passion for teaching and helping others grow not only in education but in life. I chose a career that made me happy and excited to go to work everyday. I love engaging students in my subject area, teaching science in a fun yet productive way, and learning from them as well. I enjoy having a role in education and helping a young adult make that transition into the next chapter of their life.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

My memorable teaching experience actually occurred before becoming a teacher and is why I chose to change my career interests from pre-med to teaching. I started tutoring a friend in several subject areas to prepare her for admission into nursing school. Through many tutoring sessions with her, I realized the joy I felt when she would get an answer right or share an insight she had on a specific topic. I discovered a passion for learning and helping others learn right then and there. My passion grew even more when she got accepted into nursing school. I knew that helping others pursue their career interests and dreams in education made me very happy, and I decided that this was what I needed to do to have a fulfilled life.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program has given me the chance to further my education and become a better educator for my students. Because of Noyce, I was able to enter a Masters of Arts in Teaching program to enhance my abilities to teach today’s youth. I learned several teaching strategies and ways to conduct an efficient classroom. I very much appreciate the Noyce program and highly recommend it to others.
