Chandler View Elementary, Omaha Public Schools

Background:

I am from Omaha, Neb., and graduated from the Omaha Public Schools.

Why do you want to teach:

I thoroughly enjoy helping students foster their thinking and develop the necessary skills for the current grade’s achievement while gaining the tools to transition beyond.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

While completing my MAT through the Math in the Middle Graduate Program , I modeled a mathematical algorithm for adding and subtracting fractions. I had mentioned that I had just learned the strategy the previous weekend while I was furthering my education to become a better math instructor. After expressing a true understanding of the process one of my reluctant learners responded, “Thank you for going back to school Ms. King.”

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program means I get to challenge myself to become a teacher leader within my district. Additionally my teaching will be strengthened by the professional development opportunities I am privileged to participate within or potentially develop.
