Noyce Scholar Profile

Caroline Kim

Undergraduate major or graduate field of study: Physiological Sciences

Subject area(s) and grade level teaching focus: Anatomy/Physiology

Category of scholarship/fellowship:
Master Teaching Fellow

Name of Noyce institution:
UCLA

Current academic or teaching status:
1

School and school district:
Animo Inglewood Charter High School

Background:

I started pursuing a career in teaching during my 4th year at UCLA. I completed my M.Ed at UCLA the following year.

Why do you want to teach:

I want to teach because I see the need for good teachers in the urban area. Although it is an extremely challenging job, there are not many jobs where you can impact as many people as a teacher does on a yearly basis.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

It was neat to see my students dissect for the first time. It was meaningful because as students were exploring the sheep brain, they were using rich academic language and apply concepts we learned prior to the dissection.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program has allowed me to pursue a Masters in Education, where I learned to be a researcher of my own classroom. Without the scholarship and conferences put on by Noyce, my teaching experience would be drastically different.
