Category of scholarship/fellowship:
Fifth year or post-baccalaureate Noyce scholar

Name of Noyce institution:
Pacific University

Current academic or teaching status:
1st Year of progress toward MAT

School and school district:
Lake Oswego HS, Lake Oswego School District

Background:

I am a former Naval Aviator, Navy Commander, moving forward into a second career as a teacher and coach.

Why do you want to teach:

I enjoy working with students and furthering my own knowledge and quest for truth.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

My teaching experience is limited however, I have enjoyed spending time with the High School and Middle School students. I especially enjoyed a community outreach program where the students were collecting items for a local shelter from the local community. It’s a good thing to have the school connected with their community and this seemed to be a very effective program.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program provides a fantastic spring board into a future teaching career. The great thing is not just the support found while in school but it looks like a great network to be attached to moving forward. I was excited to just be a part of the MAT program at Pacific University but having the opportunity to participate in the Noyce program is a great supplement to the experience.
