Background:

I graduated from Michigan Technological University in December 2010 with a degree in Chemistry Education. This fall I will be serving with the Americorps at L’Anse High School in L’Anse, MI.

Why do you want to teach:

I want to teach because I believe that providing all students with a quality education and opportunity to succeed is imperative to creating a just, equitable society. I think that we as a nation fall very short of this goal, and I want to have a hand in changing that.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

I haven’t had that much teaching experience yet, but one of the things that stands out for me is the parent-teacher conferences I had as a student teacher. I remember this being a point where I started to understand how big of an impact I could have on my students and their families.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce Program has meant a great deal to me in financially helping me to pursue a degree education, a choice that caused me to stay in college longer than I expected to. It has also given me hope that others share the same goals for education and society and that I am not alone in this endeavor.
