Background:
I am from Vietnam. I have been here since October 2010. I graduated from North Crowley High School, then went to Tarrant County College (TCC) to pursue an Associates Degree in Science and graduated in May 2016. I transferred to University of Texas at Arlington to achieve a bachelor's degree in Mathematics. I have worked at TCC for more than 3 years as a math tutor and now am a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader. I love my job. It is gives me the chance to do what I love--helping other students understand and enjoy math.

Why do you want to teach:
Before I came to the US, I honestly hated math the most because I did not see the important role of math in reality. However, after graduating from high school and going to TCC where I met my calculus teacher, my perspective about math has changed. I love math and enjoy solving math problems as well as sharing my understanding with my fellow students. My teacher inspired me so much. He opened up my eyes to see the amazing qualities of math on paper and in real life applications. That is the reason why I want to pass that inspiration from him to others. I want everyone to see math and love it the way I do.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:
As I mention above I am an SI leader at TCC. I hold study sessions outside the classroom and help the students in class to study together. I have met so many students and assisted them during the courses. I enjoy every moment when my students show me their test grades and are so happy because they see the result of their own understanding and hard work. Sometimes students come back to the campus or call to thank me for helping them pass the class and also let me know where they are on the road to pursue their careers.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:
This program is more than just something I applied to to get a scholarship. I joined the program because it is a great support to help me to continue to pursue my degree and my dream to become a math teacher. It is an opportunity for me to meet and learn from other wonderful people who share the same interest in educating our next generation.
