Background:
I grew up in Riverside, California where I attended and graduated from UCR. During my undergraduate years, I completed student teaching/observing in several local public schools. Following graduation, I entered the Graduate School of Education Program to recieve my single subject credential and Masters in General Education. Currently, I am an intern teach at Mountain View Middle School.
Why do you want to teach:
I want to teach, so I can inspire students to further their learning. This will expose students to more oppotunities and allow them to become passionate about the something they love to do. So as a teacher, I am encouraging a new generation to learn and follow their inspiration to lead their community into the future in all areas.
Describe a memorable teaching experience:
One of my most memorable teaching experiences was in a math class, where I was teaching a lesson on exponents using binary code. By using binary code in the lesson, students were able to see how exponents can be used in real life, and they were able to write secret messages to each other by the end of the class.
This is a memorable lesson because the following day two students gave a me letter written in the binary code. This was so rewarding and inspiring as a new student teacher, that I began to become more creative in other lessons and try to connect things to real life. The next day, I responded to the students in binary code and thanked them for the letters.
What does the Noyce program mean to you:
The Noyce program means that I can teach and inspire more students to further their learning. It also means that I can encourage students who are disadvantaged to feel confident and responsible for their learning. Through the Noyce program I can help more students who need the extra support and motivation in order to succeed.
