Noyce Scholar

Name of Noyce institution:
Adelphi University

Current academic or teaching status:
Junior

None yet

Background:

I completed my first two years of college at SUNY Farmingdale. I am thrilled to be here at Adelphi Univerity as a recipient of the TOMS Scholarship. I have always loved math, and I am happy to make math a big part of my career as a teacher.

Why do you want to teach:

I have wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a young child. I love working with young people, and I think I have a lot to offer in helping them to reach their potential in math and to help them to become mathematical thinkers.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

When I was in elementary school, I had a teacher who was so enthusiastic that she inspired me with the love of learning. When I remember this teacher, and how she has touched my life, it makes me eager to pass this experience on to my future students.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program has given me the opportunity to attend Adelphi Univeristy, a school that was financially out of my reach. The Noyce scholorship has put me on track at Adelphi to reach my goal of becoming a secondary math teacher. I will be happy to use my degree to “pay it forward” to help the students that I teach to reach their potential as well.
