Brittany Hartmann

Undergraduate major or graduate field of study: Chemistry

Subject area(s) and grade level teaching focus: Chemistry and Physics

Category of scholarship/fellowship:
Fifth year or post-baccalaureate Noyce scholar

Name of Noyce institution:
Pacific University

Current academic or teaching status:
Graduate Student

School and school district:
Hillsboro School District (most likely)

Background:

I am from Portland, Oregon. I went to Pacific University for my undergraduate education. I was a chemistry major and physics minor. I was also a two sport athlete in Varsity Lacrosse and Soccer at Pacific. I intend to become a teacher as well as a coach.

Why do you want to teach:

I have a passion for science as well as a desire to mentor the youth.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

When I was an undergraduate, my physics professor took my phone and called a student (a friend of mine) who was planning on skipping class that day. She told her to come to class because skipping her class is not allowed. This, however ridiculous, showed me how important it is to show your students that you care. That professor’s dedication, perseverance, and humor helped to push me to become a teacher. I will never forget that moment.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

The Noyce program made it possible for me to continue my schooling and receive my Master’s in Education. Without the Noyce scholarship, I would not have been able to afford it.
