Name of Noyce institution:
Virginia Commonwealth University

Current academic or teaching status:
Senior

N/A

Background:
Since the age of 3, I have loved school--being in school, touring schools, or even playing pretend school with my sister. When I became of age, I began accepting opportunities to volunteer in schools and with youth. By my senior year in high school, I had already been a student mentor (to a fifth grader) and a summer school teacher assistant (at a local preschool). The rest is history!

Why do you want to teach:
I’ve always found myself working with youth and I finally realized that I was passionate about it when I traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico. There, I worked as an English instructor for middle school-aged children. My heart was filled when I saw their eyes light up at the fact that they were genuinely grasping the material. That’s when I knew I had to make this my career.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:
Same as above!

What does the Noyce program mean to you:
The Noyce Program represents an opportunity to grow and become better in something that I am already passionate about. It means that I can accomplish my goals both academically and financially, while supplying the youth with the most powerful tool they can be armed with-–knowledge.
