Lompoc High School

Background:

I was born and raised in Lompoc, CA which is also where I want to return to teach. I am a third generation Lompoc High School (LHS) alumni and have always had a passion for that particular school and the students who go there. My dream is to get a job at LHS fresh out of the credential program at Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo and stay there for the rest of my teaching career.

Why do you want to teach:

I am all about the students. I have such a heart for them. I look at teaching as my special kind of missionary work that God designed to fit my personality perfectly. I chose math because that is the subject that most students dread, and I hope to have the largest impact in that area.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

I haven’t been in a classroom of my own yet, but a turning point in my life came when I was in high school as a TA in a remedial math class. The teacher was absent and had instructed me to teach the class myself. The fact that my peers learned from me that day really made me believe that I had the potential to be an effective teacher.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

In the short time that I have been in the Noyce program it has changed my life. The Noyce program has not only provided the monetary means for me to continue my education, but has given me support and a network that I never could have imagined. I feel like I get to learn from the best.
