Background:

My name is Ms. Ellison, and I am the mother of one beautiful little girl, Isabela. One of my favorite quotes is by George Santayana, which states, “We must welcome the future, remembering that soon it will be the past; and we must respect the past, remembering that it was once all that was humanly possible.” I attended The University of Maryland in College Park and earned a degree in Criminal Justice/Microbiology in 2003. After working in the Law Enforcement field for several years, I decided that my true passion was teaching others. In 2010, I returned to the University of North Carolina – Wilmington to pursue my Master’s of Education in Middle Grades Science.

Why do you want to teach:

I have always loved science, especially when it has the ability to be more hands on. My goal is to encourage the youth of today and instill in them the love of learning.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

There is nothing more enjoyable then watching a student’s face when they finally get that “ah ha” moment. Especially when you know that you are the one that helped break through any wall.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

I am new to the program, but it will allow me to dedicate my time fully to Graduate School and working with children.
