Category of scholarship/fellowship:
Fifth year or post-baccalaureate Noyce scholar

Name of Noyce institution:
Kennesaw State University

Current academic or teaching status:
Student Teacher

School and school district:
Cherokee County

Background:

I majored in Biology with a minor in statistics at Kennesaw State University. Upon graduation I worked for a chemical company in their Environmental, Health, and Safety Department working with data in a statistics program. I was quickly unsatisfied and after about 2 years I quit and began my Masters program to teach Biology at Kennesaw State University.

Why do you want to teach:

I have always had a passion for helping kids and wanting to teach them in some form whether is was through tutoring or volunteering at basketball camps. Along with that passion for kids I also have a genuine passion for Biology. I love every topic of it, even the plants, and want to show that enthusiasm to my students.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

I think we have all had many teaching moments but for me the one that stand out in my mind is when the students have an a-ha moment right in front of you. It finally clicks for them and there is no better feeling than actually seeing that happen!

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

I think the NOYCE program made my experience in obtaining my Masters degree ten times better. I have loved every aspect and benefit that has come from this program. I have learned a lot more in the field of teaching through this, I have made friends that I know I will keep in contact with for many years to come, and I appreciated all of the opportunities provided by the program.
