Background:
I obtained my B.A in biology and minor in psychology at Columbia College, Columbia, SC. I am from Detroit, Michigan, where I spent most of my life.
Why do you want to teach:
I want to inspire students to learn and love science. A teacher once inspired me to love science when I was in the 6th grade; I want to do the same for my students. I want to create an inviting classroom where students want to learn, have fun and communicate with each other.
Describe a memorable teaching experience:
As a student teacher, I once did an eye modeling activity and at first was really nervous. The students were used to just doing book work, but I wanted my students to learn in an inviting way. I wanted them to explore science, and they did! they loved it! This experience made me glad and let me know I had made the right decision.
What does the Noyce program mean to you:
The Noyce Program has helped me educate my students, pay for graduate school and become a great teacher. This program means a lot to me, and I am glad I was selected to become a scholar!
