East Central University/ Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship

Allen

Background:

I was born and raised in Seminole County, Oklahoma and graduated from New Lima High School in 2009. I then attended and graduated from Seminole State College in one year, graduating in the summer of 2010. I chose East Central where I heard about the Noyce program and was accepted.

Why do you want to teach:

I’ve been around education all my life and feel that I would be good at it. I have a interest in math as well as being a coach. With my personality, I believe being a teacher would suit my personality.

Describe a memorable teaching experience:

I was a math tutor at Seminole State College, and had a student who could not retain information from day to day. It stands out for me because I could explain the information day after day and he would understand it, but only for that day. It was pretty frustrating.

What does the Noyce program mean to you:

It has changed my life. The money that I receive from the Noyce program not only provides my college tuition, it helps my parents because they no longer have to worry about my education.
