Need
This project was a response to the need, as perceived by our non-profit partners at Saturday Academy, for our Noyce interns to be better prepared for the job world as part of their internship experiences. Our evaluation of the first year of the project indicated that while our Noyce participants were engaged in valuable STEM teaching experiences and were exposed to the challenges and joys of high-needs teaching, they were lacking basic, transferrable job skills such as identifying a mentor or preparing for an interview.
Goals
To respond to the need, we engaged and employee from our University’s freshman resource center (now the Shepard Academic Resource Center), who worked with our Noyce internship participants on necessary workforce skills.
