Need
Prospective mathematics teachers requested more time in schools and more focused discussions about issues in mathematics education. To respond to this need we have placed our Noyce scholars in local schools that are of high need and offer a seminar during which we focus in more depth on a issue related to mathematics education
Goals
The goals of the project are to prepare teachers who are ready to teach in high-needs schools. We are placing teachers in high needs schools and we are focusing on issues related to mathematical tasks, student engagement, and classroom management
Approach
We placed are students in high needs classrooms and periodically met to discuss mathematical tasks, student engagement, and classroom management. Drs Hollebrands, Lee, Fenn and Bottomley have all been involved in presenting to students during seminar.
Outcomes
Scholars appreciate the additional exposure to new ideas, classroom strategies, techniques and activities. They also enjoy being part of a community of supportive colleagues.
Broader Impacts
Our scholars have been impacted by our work.
