Need

We created a course: Teaching in Areas of High Need in order to provide Noyce Scholars with needed background information and research based strategies found to be effective in areas of high need.

Goals

Noyce Scholars take the course – Teaching in Areas of High Need and spend practicum hours assigned to a cooperating teacher in a High Need School

Approach

Pedagogy is an integral component of the Teaching in Areas of High Need. Noyce Scholars are able to integrate pedagogy with classroom experiences.

Outcomes

Noyce Scholars have expanded knowledge in the pedagogy and culture of high need areas. They are able to couple this learned information with a practicum that enables them to have classroom experience prior to student teaching.

Broader Impacts

Providing Noyce Scholars with practical information, pedagogy, and classroom experience enhances their student teaching experience and prepares them for their first teaching assignment. The framework of curriculum benefits the Noyce Scholar program by promoting retention in high need schools.
