Need

It is important to have well-educated and trained teacher leaders in elementary and middle schools, who have a deep understanding of mathematics that they can impart to their students. There are few STEM majors teaching at these levels.

Goals

How can we encourage strong STEM individuals to teach at the elementary and middle school levels and lead their students and schools to greater achievement in mathematics, which underlies virtually all STEM knowledge?

Approach

We are working to support STEM majors who will teach in high-need schools at the elementary and middle school level by professional development and mentoring.

Outcomes

We hope to see more students become interested in teaching at this level and making a difference.

Broader Impacts

This will provide stronger mathematics backgrounds for all students.
