Need
This program addresses the shortage of STEM teachers in the United States, especially in high-need school districts and will develop K-12 STEM teachers in New York City.
Research Questions
We will examine the implementation of the CUNY integrated teaching model at City Tech and BMCC which ultimately helps recruit and effectively retain STEM teachers.
Approach
The E-NEST program is a three-tiered model that aims to develop K-12 STEM teachers through mainly internships, summer workshop programs and scholarships.
Outcomes
13 Noyce scholars have been recruited with over 190 Noyce intern, scholar and summer program students involved. This program will continue to develop students to become qualified and certified STEM teachers in high-need schools.
Broader Impacts
This program will enhance high-need schools who are in special need of certified STEM teachers by filling STEM teaching vacancies.
