Need
By integrating separate methods courses under the umbrella of Integrated STEM Methods, we are able to emphasize the commonalities of ambitious pedagogies and offer both science and mathematics secondary teachers background and experience with more collaborative, cross-disciplinary design and field experience.
Research Questions
How can ambitious pedagogies from different arenas of pedagogical content knowledge be synthesized to support student practice and encourage implementation of more problem-focused pedagogies.
Approach
We will consider ambitious pedagogies across disciplines, their commonalities, and the strategies we use to introduce them to pre-service STEM teachers.
Outcomes
Student reports regarding how they understand and implement ambitious teaching strategies.
Broader Impacts
Combined, ambitious pedagogies across STEM disciplines allow pre-service teachers to synthesize and address issues emerging from real-world problems more effectively.
